Te Kotuku Reflection & Last Performances

Congratulations to our rōpū for an awesome performance at the Te Kotuku festival. We've had some wonderful feedback about it and are asking for people to share their photos and videos with us so we can post up on this blog. I think we should be proud. We've had lots of practices and the kids lifted in front of a healthy crowd. We counted 107 performers on Saturday which is well beyond our expectations. Thanks to the community for their support as I know that some had to sacrifice other Saturday events in order to perform. I stuck around afterwards to watch other schools and there are lots of good things we can learn from them. Was an awesome day out.

We are close to the end of the year. Lots going on but two things of focus for our Kapa Haka rōpū.

LAC PERFORMANCE

Our rōpū are performing at the Learner Achievement Celebration. As the event is a long one, we've been given a very short slot for our performance to try and make sure that we don't extend out the celebration too much. I don't mind having a truncated performance, it just means that we need to bring some of our power waiata. I think we'll have time to do 4 waiata. I want to do 3 as a rōpū and then give our seniors a waiata by themselves to do one. Our rōpū waiata set are shown below:

All

Te Iwi E

He Waiata Matariki

Toia (Mai te waka nei)

Senior Rōpū

E Minaka Ana

We may need help with getting the learners dressed before their performance. Any time that people can provide to help us with getting everyone ready will be great. As the LACs are in school time this might be challenging.

EOY Kapa Haka Celebrations

Traditionally, we have had an end of year celebration where families bring a plate and we share food at our final practice for the year. Last year I think we missed the opportunity so I want to make sure that we do it. It's a great way to reflect on the year, gives us a chance to thank the parents for their contribution but also it gives the rōpū a chance to perform in front of their parents.

Our final practice is on the 9th of December from 8:30am. I'm not entirely sure of the space that will be required but we can find a space in the new hubs or in the hall.

Remember, you are welcome to leave comments here or connect with me. Happy to talk through any opportunities that you may think will enhance our Kapa Haka rōpū.
