Kapa Haka cancelled for tomorrow.

Due to the Haka Powhiri taking place tomorrow morning, it has been decided to cancel our normal practice. It will resume next week which will be our last one for this term. In regards to the Powhiri, here is the email that was sent out today. Dear Parents and Caregivers, Firstly, thanks so much for your patience and understanding around the postponement of our trip. Our learners have been so determined when learning the waiata and are sounding amazing. They are really looking forward to the experience so we are very glad that the Malama Honua Worldwide Voyagers were able to make tomorrow work for them. To make things easier, we will continue tomorrow exactly the same as today - senior learners need to be at school at 8am so that we can be prompt at the haka powhiri. Our junior learners won't need to be at school till 8:30 at the latest. We won't be having our normal Kapa Haka practice but will still meet in Hub 1 to practice for the powhiri before the bus arrives...

Lots of learning done today...

This morning our focus was to prepare our learners for the up-coming trip next Tuesday at Pt England.  We gave the children a run down of what was going to happen on the day, what the expectations were & why we were attending. We then watched a presentation about the incredible journey that the two Waka's have traveled so far on their world wide voyage before having another great practice. Here is a wee sneak peek of the two Waka's that we will get to see sail into Pt England next Tuesday.  The year 7 & 8's were invite to attend a special presentation today. We learnt how the crew navigate using a star compass and the amazing science they are doing on their voyage as they spread their word on taking care of our environment, our earth.

Email to parents about the Haka Powhiri

Hi there, As you may be aware, there is an upcoming exciting event happening near us! The  Malama Honua World Wide Voyage  will be landing at the Pt England Reserve at  9.20am on Tuesday 24 March . This is important to us as members of the Manaiakalani cluster of schools as the voyage is following the journey that “Manaiakalani” is based on. For more information, please  click here .  Our Year 4-8 learners have been busy learning waiata to greet the voyagers, led by our Kapa Haka group and will have an opportunity to witness this exciting landing. To make this possible, our Year 4-8 learners will be walking to Pt England Reserve to arrive in time for the landing. We will need to meet at Stonefields School at  8.00am . They will need a hat, sensible walking shoes and a drink bottle in their bags. Our younger Kapa Haka learners will be bused to the landing area to enable them to arrive in time to be in place and practice. We will return to Stonefields...

Thanks Jacq's, I know the learners were very happy to start their day with a piece of yummy banana cake.  Hope you had a great day Matua Bryan. I also wanted to let you know t here will be a email sent out to all  parents & caregivers of our  Kapa Haka learners with more details about the   Mālama Honua Voyage that is happening on the 24th of March.  You should receive this  within the next week. This is a super awesome opportunity for us to be apart of and we are all really excited. Finally I just wanted to shout a massive THANK YOU to the wonderful Stonefields School FOSS team who have decided...

You've  come back home, to see your people. There is  gesturing  and laughing  with joy  at  your  return, Eyes popping and tongues thrusting from the energy of those performing. I see again your beauty gleaming there caressed by the wind, and  my tears are snatched away. This  ...

Nga Waka Video

This is Nga Waka.  This song will be performed at the Powhiri for the waka at Point England.  This is the result after our first lesson as a group.  The video quality isn't great but we should be able to follow the song. Practice this at home with the words.  The group will be performing with the school seniors on the 24th of March 2015.
