A thank you note from Mātua Bryan for Saturday's performance

Thank you to all of the learners, parents and teachers who braved the wild weather to perform on behalf of our Kapa Haka rōpū for Stonefields School.

We were able to get around half of the learners to the performance, which is great considering we know people have other commitments on weekends.

Why our presence was so important

We do not often get these types of opportunities to engage with our local community so it was great to take advantage of it. Our group was one of the most diverse out of the schools involved and for us to perform so well was awesome to hear.

One of my proudest moments of the day, and only Mātua Jipsy and I were able to experience this, was when the group was in the wharenui practicing our set of songs and the sound was incredible in the small space. So much so, that passers by (including seasoned kapa haka performers) were drawn in to watch the learners perform and were pleasantly surprised that it was Stonefields School.

Special thanks to our parents

For those who came out to help dress our tamariki, add feathers and moko to make them really look the part - we thank you so much.  Your support of kapa haka at Stonefields means a lot to the committee, tutors and teachers.

I think we need to celebrate what we have achieved. It is the culmination of months of hard work that our school and learners have put in. We were gifted an award which we are proud to have brought back with us.  Something for the trophy cabinet!

Our final performance for the year

Our final performance this year is the Learner Achievement Celebration at the Auckland Netball Centre on Tuesday 11 December.

This is our opportunity to showcase their skills to the whole school community and farewell our leavers.  They have been great role models for our young group and we are sad to see them leave us but excited for their next steps.
